THE West Australian government may consider the use of metal detectors in nightclubs after five people were stabbed at a Perth nightclub early today.
Police say five people are being treated at a Perth hospital after the stabbing and a suspect is helping police with their inquiries.
WA police commissioner Karl O’Callaghan said nightclub patrons needed protection from the sort of incident that happened at the Red Sea club, in Subiaco about 4.30am (WST) today.
“If we continue to see this going on then I will have no choice but to … ask government to make it a requirement of their licensing that they put metal detectors at the entry point of these clubs,”
he said.
WA Premier Alan Carpenter responded immediately, saying the call would be supported by legislation if necessary.
“If the police indicate to me that it’s necessary to take some action to force nightclub owners to better protect their patrons then that’s something we’ll seriously consider,”
Mr Carpenter said

I was using my metal detector in the foothills of Tucson, Arizona. As luck would have it, I never find what I am Seeking. As the day started to come to an end. I was walking back to my truck with the metal detector resting on my shoulder.
I caught sight of an unusual looking rock laying on the ground. After picking up the rock I dusted the rock on my pant leg and noticed a fossilized baby bird just off center of the stone. I turned the stone over to reveal more of the bird’s body on the back of the stone.
After showing the bird off to some of my friends, I decided to take the stone to the University of Arizona. I wanted to learn more about what I had found…

Playing with Metal Detectors, Treasure hunting, Metal Detecting, Camping and Survival are my favorite hobbies. As a child I always dreamed of finding treasure. One of my best friends introduced me to metal detecting when I was 18 and I’ve been hooked ever since! I’ll never give up and maybe one day I’ll find that ever elusive pirate treasure!
This page is my attempt to gather information, links, etc for all who are interested in the hobby

Metal detectors are fascination machines. Many of the people who use them are just as enthusiastic about extolling the virtues of their favorite metal detector as they are about setting off in search of buried treasure. Those of us who design and build these instruments for a living listen carefully when one of our customers talks about his or her experience in the field, because this is the primary means by which we determine how well we are doing our jobs, and what sort of things we need to do better. Sometimes though, communication is difficult. Almost as though we and our customers speak different languages. Which in a sense, we do. The purpose of this page is to try to narrow that communication gap a little. And, to resolve some of that “typical curiosity” metal detector operators have regarding what is going on inside their instruments.

Gold metal detectors are used to find small and large gold nuggets. Small and slightly small gold nuggets can be detected at medium depths. Large gold nuggets are the most difficult to search and locate. Gold metal detectors have ground balance modes for alkali soils and black sands for smooth operation. The maximum sensitivity of a gold detector helps to locate small gold bits at greater depths. It can operate with ideal frequencies for locating gold nuggets. The search coil used in gold metal detectors is water proof. Additional features of gold metal detectors are meter display, manual group balancing adjustment and discrimination adjustment. These supplementary features vary with the technology used in each type…

Airport metal detectors are electronic instruments for identifying different types of metal objects. Terrorism, hijacking, and bombings have lead to the installation of airport metal detectors for security reasons. Walk over or hand held models of metal detectors are normally used in airports. Airport metal detectors ensure that no weapons or smuggled goods are brought to the airport premises or into the aircraft.
Metal detectors are used for various purposes such as security maintenance, item recovery, archaeological exploration, and geological research. Different styles such as beachcomber, hand held, and mounted models are available to suit different needs. Main parts of detectors are control box, shaft, and search coil. Control box which has speaker, batteries, and microprocessor coordinates all activities of metal detectors.
Airport metal detectors scan people before entering the boarding area and into the aircraft. Baggage is also screened to prevent any security threats. Almost all these equipments work on the principle of pulse induction. Metal detector checks the time of the reflected pulse from the screened material. If the reflected pulse takes more time than normal then the possibility of a metal object is identified. An alarm signal is produced by the equipment if it recognizes a conductive metal or material. Some models of metal detectors even spot areas where the undesirable objects are hidden. Airport metal detectors are also capable of identifying explosive materials, drugs, and illegal imports….
